2026 Vigor in Arduis Medal Recipient: Dan Carmody

Join us in congratulating Dan Carmody for being honored with this year’s Vigor in Arduis Medal!

Dan served seven remarkable years as President of Cathedral High School, transforming the school and helping it reach new heights. Under his visionary leadership, enrollment grew by 25%, graduation and college matriculation rates remained exceptionally strong, and community partnerships flourished, further expanding Cathedral’s impact and strengthening its connections throughout the community. A defining milestone of his tenure, Dan led the historic $60 million Cathedral Now, Cathedral Forever campaign, helping secure the resources necessary to sustain Cathedral’s mission, values, and commitment to its students for generations to come. Academic achievement also advanced significantly during Dan’s tenure, with particularly impressive gains over his final four years: 11 new Advanced Placement (AP) courses, including; A sixfold increase in ninth-grade students scoring above the national average on standardized tests, and a 40% increase in students excelling on AP exams. Dan’s genuine love of Cathedral scholars, along with his success in recruiting and retaining a great team, fueled each of these successes.

Dan’s remarkable contributions to Cathedral High School illustrate his lifelong journey as a servant leader, dedicated to advancing education and advocating for those at the margins. As an undergraduate student at Elon University, Dan spent his weekends building homes with Habitat for Humanity. He then took his passion for serving to the Peace Corps in Paraguay, followed by educating students at an international school in Honduras. When he returned home, Dan joined Boston College High School as a guidance counselor. He then created BC High’s global education program, the Hyde Center for Global Education, while simultaneously working for the Jesuits on worldwide education initiatives. Dan accomplished all of this while earning a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Boston College.

After calling Cathedral High School home for seven years, Dan recently joined New Story as Vice President where he will advance the organizational mission of helping children and young adults with special needs to reach their full potential. Dan’s leadership, mission focus, and genuine love for our community left Cathedral stronger, more vibrant, and poised for a bright future. His legacy of growth, opportunity, and service is firmly etched into the fabric of the Cathedral community.
