Your College Counseling Journey at Cathedral High School
At Cathedral, your college counseling journey begins on day one. Each year, Cathedral scholars expand their knowledge of the college process, explore more opportunities for college majors and careers, and discern the right college fit—all in order to matriculate at the most opportune college or university upon graduating from Cathedral.
Take a sneak peek at our college counseling curriculum, tailored for each grade level:
Grades 7-8: Build a Foundation
- Engage in an 8-class curriculum based on initial career explorations
- Attend a hands-on career fair in Boston
- Participate in Career Day and interact with professionals
Grade 9: Your Goals, Your Future
- Learn how to use the Naviance college and career exploration system
- Take quizzes related to learning styles, career inventories, and college matches to understand how academics relate to college options
- Participate in discussions on the transition to high school as it relates to academic college readiness
Grade 10: Preparing for College
- Weekly guidance seminar (spring semester) covering PSAT and SAT readiness, networking, community involvement, and exploration of college majors
- Determine course selection based on college major interests through individualized meetings with your guidance counselor
- College visits begin
Grade 11: The College Application Process
- SAT prep course
- Weekly college readiness seminar (spring semester)
- Create a tailored college list
- Introduction to the financial aid process through our “College Affordable” partnership
- Write your college essay in partnership with the English department
- Meet with college admissions representatives who will be reviewing college applications
- Determine “best fit” colleges and majors through individualized meetings with your guidance counselor
Grade 12: Choosing Your College
- Summer college application workshop
- Weekly college readiness course (fall semester) covering all components of the college application process, including college essays, supplemental essays, recommendations, filling out the Common App, resumes, college financials, and forms
- Dedicated college application support from your guidance counselor
- Take the SAT exam
- Dedicated block during the school day to work on college and scholarship applications or meet with your guidance counselor
- Financial aid support in partnership with “College Affordable”
University Partnerships
We are blessed to partner with amazing schools like Emmanuel College and Stonehill College that provide unique and distinct opportunities and access for Cathedral scholars.
Cathedral scholars also have access to representatives from colleges all over the country who visit our school for college fairs and information sessions, and we offer scholars in grades 10 through 12 the opportunity to visit several colleges and universities on class retreats.
